THIS gives a pretty good explanation of the differences.

One of the big differences is that eSATA has much longer cables, this one I have here is over double the length of a normal SATA cable. The connector is different. eSATA cables are indeed shielded.

From what I can tell, the only difference is that the Badaxe 2 supports DDR2 800 and the XBX only supports 667. Everything that I see looks exactly the same. Same southbridge, same PCI slots, same number of Gigabit ports, etc.
