THIS gives a pretty good explanation of the differences.
One of the big differences is that eSATA has much longer cables, this one I have here is over double the length of a normal SATA cable. The connector is different. eSATA cables are indeed shielded.

I'm looking for an External SATA cable. I've tried Memory Express BCOM and OEM Express and none of them carry one. If you know where I can buy one, let me know.
