Screaming at a Tier 1 agent to get them to provision a residential line at a business is just plain stupid. The agent won't falter from that policy unless he or she wants a reprimand. Unless you know of an installer that can get past the Tier 1 rigmarole, you won't get a residential line installed in that building. Shaw abides by city bylaws and that building is listed as commercial.

Now I did some checking. I don't want to step on anyone's toes, but here is the info that I got from Commercial Sales:

1. Commercial accounts cannot be suspended.
2. The $110 fee will always apply to service reconnection.
3. A modem has to be provided at new installs, along with professional installation. They are "guaranteeing" the install.

Sorry, but that's how it works. Unless we host the LAN at a residential address, these rules won't change.

If you guys are interested I can probably get us a 6mb/1mb ADSL connection for a hell of a lot less.
6mb is the fastest we have though.

Can you get us three? :P

Really tho, it is a better option to use a slightly slower service than one where we jump through hoops while we pay out the nose.
A limited supply of surprisingly, as this homeboy is poised for the big time. Sweet and pure like a honey coated nun, SOULS well sure he funky in the 70s.

I'm curious...

Is it through TekSavvy?

Did we ever figure out if the modem trick would work?
Especially since this service was never actually de-activated - the modem should theoretically work as if it was just working normally at its proper home, as long as it's within the same 'region'

Multilink Point-To-Point Protocol, basically modem-bonding so that you get 2x the bandwidth. The same technology was used in dial-up using two phone lines and two exact same modems.

Not sure if it's the same thing, but if you have a capable dual-wan router you would assign a /30 that we provide to each interface and we would route a netblock to those interfaces on our end.

Well, I don't even know if MLPPP would work with iCentre. The only DSL company that I know of that supports MLPPP is TekSavvy. Most dual-WAN routers just support load balancing and fail-over support. MLPPP doubles the bandwidth, where load balancing does not.

Load balancing would be fine. We're not trying to get one person a fast-as-possible connection. We're trying to get reasonable bandwidth split accross 50+ people.

I am going to say that accomplishing such a task won't be easy unless everyone turns off every auto-updater known to existence and kill P2P clients. The questions are; How many people are willing to do so, and are you willing to enter in x amount of torrent tracker site into a HOSTS file?

no one. Let's continue onward as if that's not an option, because you're not going to get 50 people on the same page.
