I have thought about this and have come to the conclusion that I either did something to piss off JR (and no, not because of buying a $20 cable), he is busy, or he is dead set against charities and he's being a stubborn old man about it. If it's the latter, just come JR. You don't have to donate anything. your company would be missed if you didn't show.

I personally do not like charity myself. However in this case i have bent the rules simply becuase ki has vouched for this personally
