If the line was never de-activated, then you will need the modem that the account was provisioned with. I believe the account is tied to the MAC address. I could be wrong though....

Well, if you guys want the DSL let me know. I imagine it'll be 40ish but it'll just depend what I work out with my boss.
I need to order at least a week in advance.

With the number of people coming to this lan who own businesses or work in IT, I think InCenter should SPONSOR the webs !

They are. 50 bucks is a discount. We'd normally charge more for a 6mb static IP service.

edit: Also, sign up for the LAN

6mb, not 5 :P

I'd rather have the 15mb for $75, providing it's not a year subscription

I take it you called telus and this is their offer? If so, 15MB for sure.

Multilink Point-To-Point Protocol, basically modem-bonding so that you get 2x the bandwidth. The same technology was used in dial-up using two phone lines and two exact same modems.
Not sure if it's the same thing, but if you have a capable dual-wan router you would assign a /30 that we provide to each interface and we would route a netblock to those interfaces on our end.
You know I never thought I would see a netmask like that, given that the network address and the broadcast address soak up as many available IPs as the range you're serving. What would be the point of assigning 2 addresses if you weren't able to aggregate them? It's still one line, so you have no additional redundancy there (right?), just another available IP addresses.

Is there an installation fee for your interwebs Dolphin? Or can we verify that it will work before we cancel Shaw? Because $50 is a hell of a lot cheaper than $175, which is what Shaw is charging us. As it stands tho, we have so many people who are supposed to attend that the $175 shouldn't be a sticking point, it's a small price per person for a lot of extra space in the intertubes.

Hell the $75 for 15mbit is a great deal if we can do that every time there's a LAN (with no other setup fees etc) - even that is half the price of shaw, and that speed should be fine.

That's what I was saying, we can't. This is a one time thing, every time after is a $100 install fee. Which is why I was debating buying a year-round subscription, and turning it down to $50 when we aren't using it.

I think I'm going to try calling the Goldbar guy today to see if they might be willing to split the costs. I know MegaFPS has LANs at the hall more than GL so we'd probably have to pay for more of it than you guys.

So I called the guy and asked, he said they had internet there before but cancelled it because it wasn't being used, but he would ask the committee if they would be interested in splitting the cost.

Maybe we could offer an incentive, like running a wireless router for the place that would assure it is used more often, if they are agreeing to split the costs. It's not a small cost for us with our expertise, and it's a big help to our efforts if they are going to be helping to pay for our internets.

I wonder if i should buy this

http://www.memoryexpress.com/Products/P ... ME%29.aspx

might give us some flexable options for future lans while being in our price/performance range. Or should I get something more high end?
