Not sure if you guys heard, Fragapalooza is going to be mostly digital, with a small in-person event at the Fulton Place Community League where we normally have the MegaFPS LANs. Lori from the Frag staff asked me to post this here, there is a small number of open positions (quantity and cost TBD) that will be open to long-time frag goers such as the GarageLAN crew. If you'd like to be put on the list, please message Lori (Ember49) on Discord:

Don't really understand why they're not doing the big event this year.

Makes sense from a logistic perspective. Everything is kind of up in the air atm. It's a lot of time and money to get a big event off the ground and what happens if they decide to cancel large gatherings again? I don't really blame them from holding off this year.

They have some pretty candid explanations in the general chat of the Fraga discord:
Trust me, we're pretty well ALL bummed about that too... but we just can't risk it, with the possibility that we'd potentially have to cut capacity in half if restrictions changed, and we'd still be committed to 100% costs, there's just no winning... We're hoping to be back as big or even bigger next year, really get in there and bring people back who've been craving it just as much as we all have
Given that there is a slight rise again in China, and potential for variants, and the proximity in time to a couple other large events that have had a tendency to lead to spikes, we're just not interested in chancing it this year...
I'll probably catch hell for this later, but... This wasn't a decision we made lightly, we spent a fair bit of time over the last four months debating and discussing this, especially with the evolution of changes just over the last two months... given the timeline until the event, we couldn't be confident that we could gather / arrange everything necessary to put on an event of the expected calibre, and with the risks...
We typically start planning, getting sponsors, arranging things with those sponsors and vendors in January, and still continue to do so for the months leading up to the event, with all the work that needed to be done, there just wouldn't have been enough time to not be half-assing the process and putting on an event that may not have been up to the standard we've all come to expect.
There isn't much more to add that hasn't already been covered by the other staff members here, but I wanted to also put in that we all wanted so badly to have this event this year in person and in conjunction with our expanded online community. For a not-for-profit organization that relies heavily on registration numbers to secure equipment and services, you hopefully understand the potential gamble and risk that comes with if you take the lens back to January 2022. There were other factors, but this one weighed in very heavily into our decision. And as said, some of the decisions around finances has to be made well early in our event planning to ensure the resources can be secured in time for the event.

Not to say we were debating this right up to the last few weeks, looking at all ways we could make this happen. It just didn't line up. But as @Overloadu mentioned, there are some things we are still working on... so stay tuned - just know it isn't a full FP 2022 in person event lol
